As counterintuitive as it sounds, if you can disentangle assessment from grading, you get a more honest picture. Our end of the year general assessment is like that.Budhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890564471631569204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4323202250325013491.post-13551112313895485562007-12-04T07:29:00.000-05:002007-12-04T07:29:00.000-05:002007-12-04T07:29:00.000-05:00I don't have any problem with assessment. If it is used to assess what the students have learned, to make adjustments in the instruction, to identify possible gaps in understanding it's fine.

I do think that assessments should be independent and not conducted by the same person(s) responsible for facilitating the learning.Kevin Gamblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00659162207319457717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4323202250325013491.post-40351088024611195172007-12-04T01:48:00.000-05:002007-12-04T01:48:00.000-05:002007-12-04T01:48:00.000-05:00I agree, but how do you know if someone has learne...I agree, but how do you know if someone has learned? How do you know if you've taught them well?

The problem is that these questions are pretty powerful. If not through assessment, how do you answer them.Budhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890564471631569204noreply@blogger.com
