QOTD: Stowe Boyd

Stowe Boyd revisits the USAToday site redesign and their attempts to harness some social networking magic:
So put me down as one of the ardent advocates of well-designed social applications who was not 'breathlessly' praising the efforts of USAToday.com. I think these closed, social media sites are a step in the wrong direction.
I absolutely agree. The strategy of everyone trying to build their own communities will fail. The communities already exist. The winners will be those who figure out how to mashup communities in some seamless way that allows people to discover each other. Where that's a defining factor in today's social networking sites, the future of social networking is not site specific. Think viral!
