Your search engine plugins

I‘m needing conversation today. So I got to wondering which search engine plugins people use; which is your favorite, most obscure, fun… You get the idea. This is a totally Jasonesk sort of post. Here‘s my list:

  • Wikipedia
  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • delicious
  • Answers.com
  • Creative Commons
  • Dictionary.com
  • eBay
  • Amazon
  • IMDb
  • isoHunut – Bittorrent
  • Technorati
  • A9
  • Yahoo Answers
  • YubNub

My favorite is most definitely Wikipedia. This is where I have been starting my searches since last July when I issued myself a challenge: Abandoning Google search. There are some on my list that I should definitely use more. For example, if I would use A9 I could remove several of the others. Also, there are some on my list that I just never think to use. If I‘m wanting to search a particular site I find myself adding the specific site to my search rather than using the plugin; e.g. caddyshack site:imdb.com.

Finally, I think my most obscure plugin is probably YubNub which offers you a command-line interface to search. Every time I use it I realize it is the only search plugin I need. It does it all. So why don‘t I clean house and remove all the others and force myself to use it? Dang, that‘s a good question. Done.

Update: I realized that it is kind of hard to find the YubNub plugin by following the “Manage Search Engine” option in Firefox. Actually, it‘s many pages deep. You can find it here: YubNub search engine plugin.
