So it looks like Mechanical Turk is struggling to get any real traction, which makes me wonder if all the initial hype about it was overblown?

There‘s not a darn thing wrong with the MT technology. What‘s broken is the way that Amazon has chosen to implement it. It‘s just more evidence that you can‘t buy your way to a community. When you do this you devalue the efforts of the truly committed, and no amount of money can buy passion.
