Brewster Kahle on Google Books

Brewster Kahle in a short video interview at if:book:

Pretty much Google is trying to set themselves up as the only place to get to these materials; the only library; the only access. The idea of having only one company control the library of human knowledge is a nightmare.

I agree completely. I don‘t understand why so many universities are climbing into bed with Google. Google may not be evil now, but time has a way of changing things. I‘d much rather see our public universities throwing their resources and influence behind the Open-Content Alliance. There is only one land-grant university on the list of supporters: The University of California. That is troubling.
