History of virtual learning environments

Last week Blackboard was granted a U.S. Patent for the technologies that comprise online learning environments. More specifically, course and enterprise learning management systems. On the surface this seems absurd.

One of the things considered with patents is prior art or in regular person language, who had the idea first. Someone decided to start a Wikipedia page on the history of virtual learning environments. Springing from nowhere in just two days this is wiki magic at its best.
